Lloyds Banking Group plc provides various banking and financial services to personal and corporate customers primarily in the United Kingdom. It operates through four segments: Retail, Wholesale, Wealth and International, and Insurance. The Retail segment provides banking, mortgages, and other financial services to personal customers. Its products include current and savings accounts, personal loans, credit cards, and mortgages. This segment also operates as a general insurance and bancassurance distributor, selling a range of long-term savings, investment, and general insurance products. The Wholesale segment offers banking and related services for multinational corporates and financial institutions, and small and medium-sized businesses, as well as for start-ups. It also provides asset finance to personal and corporate customers; and manages the companys activities in financial markets through its treasury function. In addition, this segment offers risk management and advisory services to corporate and commercial customers; specialized lending services; and provides access to capital markets and multi-product financing solutions. The Wealth and International segment offers private banking, and asset management services. It also offers corporate, commercial, and retail banking services internationally. The Insurance segment provides life assurance, pensions, and investment products in the United Kingdom and Europe, as well as general insurance, including home and payment protection insurance to personal customers. The company was formerly known as Lloyds TSB Group plc and changed its name to Lloyds Banking Group plc in January 2009. Lloyds Banking Group plc was founded in 1985 and is headquartered in London, the United Kingdom. It is 2nd largest Bank by market capitalisation in the United Kingdom,

Skills and experience: Alan is a highly regarded retail and commercial banker having spent 37 years with the Royal Bank of Scotland, most notably as Chief Executive of RBS UK. More recently, he was a Non-Executive Director of Willis Limited and Chairman of its Risk Committee. He was formerly Chairman of Brown, Shipley & Co. Limited and a Non-Executive Director of Nationwide Building Society where he was Chairman of its Risk Committee. Alan's strategic focus and core banking experience complements the balance of skills on our Board and makes him ideal for the role of Chairman of the Board Risk Committee. He is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Bankers and the Royal Statistical Society and has an MBA from the Manchester Business School and a Bachelor of Science from the University of Birmingham.
